Bag those breakfast bars, lose that latte and try this blend-and-go Banana, Nutmeg, and Honey Smoothie from "Smoothies" (Ryland Peters & Small, 2008, $14.95) by Louise Pickford. Low in fat and rich in potassium and antioxidants, it's packed with energy to keep you going through the morning.

Banana, Nutmeg, and Honey Smoothie

Serves 2

2 bananas

1 teaspoon honey

2 tablespoons oat bran

2 tablespoons raisins

1 cup organic skim milk

1 cup organic low-fat yogurt

1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, plus extra to dust

Peel and slice the bananas. Put them in a blender with the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Serve dusted with a little extra grated nutmeg.
